Flavor Infused Water Recipes
Water is life? Not when it's boring and flavorless.
Throughout all my trial and error of trying to lose weight, manage diabetes, and maintain my general well-being the one consistent message has been WATER! You hear it all the time from trainers, medical professionals, etc. "drink 64 oz a day or 8 - 8 oz glasses" or "drink the number of ounces equivalent to half your body weight"...which means if you weigh 150 lbs, you should be drinking 75 oz. of water a day... a lot of mixed messages out there. So how much is enough?
My dietitian says 64 oz (2 quarts a day or 8 - 8 oz glasses) is sufficient, so that's the guideline I'm following. I tried to drink a gallon a day and flat couldn't do it. I literally felt like I was just drinking water all day and when it wasn't going in, it was coming out. Just drinking and peeing, all the live long day.
It's been said so many times it's almost become cliché but water really does have some amazing benefits IF you consistently drink the recommended amount, daily. Some of the personal benefits I have experienced:
Clearer skin
Fewer wrinkles and morning puffiness
Improved mood
Less "brain fog
One benefit that is frequently mentioned but I have not personally experienced:
Decreased appetite
My stomach is not fooled. It's basically like, "Hey cool, water. Still need food, bruh." However, I do get full faster when I am well hydrated and drink water during my meal.
You may be saying to yourself "I don't like water. Water is boring." I don't disagree with that...but, it doesn't have to be boring. You can liven up your water with various fruits, herbs, and even veggies. I've done some experimenting and a few of my favorites are below. Click on each to expand or right click to save.

Tips:
Do not allow unpeeled citrus fruits to infuse for more than 4 hours as the rind will cause the water to become bitter. (Infusing for 2 hours, at room temperature usually yields the best results.)
Discard fruit/veggies/herbs after 3 days; rinse container and replace with fresh ingredients. Ingredients may need to be replaced sooner if they no longer taste and/or smell fresh.
Keep water refrigerated
Enjoy!
